Sub-Zero Freezer Repairs in Coronado
A Sub-Zero freezer that has drifted a few degrees gives no warning at all, and on the island it drifts for a specific reason. Every door opening pulls in air carrying far more moisture than the same air inland, so the evaporator collects frost faster than the defrost cycle was designed to clear it. Ice builds on the coil, the coil stops moving heat, and the temperature climbs a degree at a time. By the time the ice cream has gone soft, the coil has been furred over for weeks.

Between the marine layer in the morning and the bay breeze in the afternoon, the air moving into the cabinet every time someone reaches for ice is loaded, and all of that moisture ends up on the evaporator as frost. Add a summer of a drawer being opened constantly by people coming in off the sand and a marginal defrost circuit has no chance of keeping up with it.

Fresh food side was sitting warm while the freezer behind it stayed rock hard, which I assumed meant the whole thing was done. He pulled the lower grille off first and the condenser was gray with salt and beach sand. Cleaned, tested, and it held overnight.
We are up in one of the towers at The Shores, so I left a name at the desk and gave them the floor when I booked. There was a rattle behind the grille on the refrigerator column that got worse every evening. Evaporator fan. In and out before lunch.
We only get down to the Cays a few months of the year and the ice machine out by the slip was making about half what it used to. He said the grille sits low enough to pull in salt and sand off the water. Cleaned out the condenser and it came right back.
